The NW bargaining team met with management yesterday, June 30, 2025, the day before our contract expired, to bargain for the best contract possible. Your bargaining team is advocating not only a fair wage increase but premiums that would incentivize and help retain staff, and safe working conditions that allow nurses to receive their meal and rest breaks. Here is what the team is working towards:
- Low Census rotation – The employer is pushing to LC FTE nurses over travelers. The bargaining team and WSNA are strongly against this. The employer should prioritize their FTE and intermittent staff over travelers.
- Pre-scheduled Double Time – This MOU has sunset as of 06/30/2025; this does not mean the employer can never offer DT again or any other incentive. The employer proposed a new MOU for incentive, which the bargaining team is reviewing and discussing.
- Cath Lab – The bargaining team feels strongly that our NW Cath lab deserves an incentive, both for their 30-minute call-back window and for their thousands of hours of mandatory call. The employer is also proposing that if a nurse works into their scheduled call shift from a regular shift, it should just be an extension of their shift; again the team and WSNA strongly disagree with this position.
- Intermittent/Non-permanent Staff – The employer reads our current contract language to say that in order for any permanent RN one who moves into an intermittent (per diem) position to qualify for just cause, they should have to work an additional 1872 hours. WSNA and the bargaining team see this as a double probation, which penalizes staff for the reduction of FTE.
- Education and Professional Leave – The employer has agreed that nurses may use their professional leave to participate in the King County Nurses Association (KCNA) educational and developmental events.
