Wage Increase

Overlake Nurses,

WSNA Officers and Activists have been pushing Overlake leadership to increase wages throughout the pandemic, and especially in light of the Children’s historic wage increases – quickly followed by UW’s and Swedish’s increases. Overlake has fallen way behind the market. We presented Overlake with wage comparisons of how far behind we are compared to other Seattle hospitals (and many Tacoma hospitals as well). In response, they relied on Article 11.4 of our Contract and presented us with the following:

  • A $5 flat increase per step for each RN employed at Overlake effective January 2, 2023
  • 4% increase (instead of 3.5%) in May 2023.

This is certainly a good start – especially considering that Overlake could have refused to increase wages until our Contract expires in May 2024. We will assess how these new rates compare to hospitals and how they will impact our bargaining unit. This mid-contract wage increase would not have happened without our members. Membership is critical to the success of efforts like this. The best way to show support and solidarity is to join. Fill out an application if you have not already. We stand with each other, for each other, and our patients.
