Local Unit Meeting June 23, 2023: Nurse Recognition Bonus Vote

Dear nursing colleagues,

We want to share some important information about the mid-contract negotiations, specifically concerning the Nurse Recognition Bonus MOU. This Nurse Recognition Bonus MOU impacts both the staff contract and the supervisor contract.

The County has made its best and final offer for the nurse recognition bonus. Nurses who received a 2021 ratification bonus (afforded by article 6.2.1 of our current contract) in April 2021 (April 29th paycheck) will not receive the full nurse recognition bonus. However, newer nurses who have joined the County since the last contract was signed will receive the full recognition bonus. WSNA and your negotiation team have made multiple attempts to negotiate with the County to remove this language that deducts ratification pay from the nurse recognition bonus. Unfortunately, the County has said “no”. The result is that nurses will not receive the same dollar amount for recognition of their work throughout the pandemic, which requires taking this issue to both bargaining units for an in-person vote.
