Annual Leave Requests Reminder

Round 1 Annual Leave: Requests for 2027 annual leave must be submitted by August 31, 2026. Round 1 requests are awarded by seniority, with written approval or denial due by September 30. Nurses may generally request up to two weeks of FTE-equivalent hours; nurses with at least 15 years of bargaining-unit seniority may request up to three full weeks, subject to sufficient accrued or anticipated leave.

Round 2 Annual Leave: Requests submitted after August 31 are considered on a first-come, first-served basis. Requests submitted between September 1 and October 1 will be considered beginning October 1, with written decisions due within 30 days. Under the contract, if management does not respond within the applicable deadline, the request is considered approved and the Employer is responsible for covering the shift. Keep a copy or screenshot showing when your request was submitted.

Keep Filing ADOs

Please continue filing an ADO whenever the staffing plan is not met, you miss a meal or rest break, the Break Buddy system is used, available help is denied, unsafe situations occur, or a Charge RN takes patients. Include as much detail as possible. Tracking and trending ADOs matters! If you didn’t document, it didn’t happen.

If you don’t know your unit’s staffing plan you can find a copy of the hospitals staffing plan here. 

If you haven’t heard a response or don’t understand the response to your ADO reach out and let us know! ADOs can take time to be heard but the expectation is that they are voted on and resolved within 90 days from the date of filling. 

The HSC continues to  advocate for multiple departments, but this cannot be done without the information of where the issues are occurring. 

Drop in Q&As

To keep your questions answered and help issue spot the WSNA SRH officers will start doing drop in Q&As via teams here on Mondays after our new employee orientation for nurses at Skagit Regional Health. We will briefly touch on a topic and then be there for your questions. 

Because new RNs are oriented every other Monday, the hope is that this will give a little more flexibility for more nurses to make it and align more consistently with rotations.  The first few Q&A meetings will be 9/14/26, 10/12/26 11/9/26. 

September Union Meetup with WSNA President Justin Gill

The WSNA officers from St. Joe’s in Bellingham have invited multiple local units, including Skagit Regional Health, to their next local unit meetup, which will be held at Trackside in Bellingham on Tuesday, September 1, from 1800 to 2000. They have invited a special guest, WSNA President Justin Gill. 

Justin began his nursing career as an RN at St. Joe’s, and has been routinely supportive of nurses in Northwest Washington. 

These meetups are casual, family-friendly gatherings where nurses can connect, raise concerns, exchange ideas, and build relationships outside the hospital. This event is especially unique because it brings together nurses from multiple bargaining units. Whether you work in Bellingham or at one of our neighboring facilities, you are welcome. Come chat, meet colleagues, learn what is happening at other facilities, and share ideas about what may help at yours.

We hope to see you there and grab one of the last bites at our Northwest summer.
