Union Updates at St. Joe’s

Your elected board continues to advocate for every nurse at St. Joe’s while building the strength we will need for the next round of negotiations. We are less than two years out. Make no mistake, this will be one of the most important bargaining campaigns in St. Joe’s history. PeaceHealth will not hand anything over. It will take all of us, organized and united, to win the contract we deserve.

We are laying that groundwork now. That means training stewards, increasing opportunities to connect, and maintaining a visible presence in the hospital. Here is what is coming up.

WSNA Leadership Conference

We still have scholarships available worth up to $600 to attend the WSNA Leadership Conference, April 26–28. This is an opportunity to build skills, learn how to be a steward, and strengthen our union. Scholarships cover registration, travel, lodging, and meals.

The deadline to register for WSNA Leadership Conference is 4/13/2026

If you are interested in a scholarship please contact Nurse Rep Jared at JRichardson@WSNA.org

Cafeteria Time

On April 7, board members and Nurse Rep Jared will be in the cafeteria from 1130 to 1330. Stop by, ask questions, and connect with your union.

In Person Union Meeting at Stemma West Brewing

April 7, 2026
500 Carolina St
Bellingham, WA 98225
1800 to 2000

Join us for our monthly in-person meeting which will be held in April at Stemma Brewing West. We will continue to rotate the venue each month and support local businesses. This is a chance to meet outside the hospital, connect with coworkers, and talk through the issues that matter most. Come by, grab a drink, and let us know how we can make WSNA work better for you.

Night Shift Rounding

Our March 17 night shift rounding was a success. It was great to connect with so many of you. The next rounding is scheduled for April 21 starting at 2300. We will be back on the units with updates, swag, and time to talk.

Hospital Staffing Committee

The Hospital Staffing Committee remains a key point of conflict with PeaceHealth. We have proposed updates to the charter to ensure full transparency. Right now, management only shares “roll up” data that suggests near perfect compliance. That does not match what nurses experience on the units. We know unit level data exists, and we are demanding that it be shared with the full committee. Management voted as a bloc to block that transparency.

We also proposed aligning the charter with our contract so that staffing plans affecting union nurses require union nurse approval. Management voted that down, claiming it would hinder collaboration. They refuse to share the data we need, then point to collaboration as the reason to deny accountability. That tells you exactly where things stand.

The next HSC meeting is April 1 at 0800 via Teams. This is your staffing committee. It determines how your unit is staffed. Your voice matters here. Show up and be heard.
