From Priorities to Proposals - Bargaining Day 1 Recap
Posted Sept. 11, 2026
Today, we showed up at the bargaining table ready to represent all of us and begin the work of negotiating our next contract!
A typical day 1 is about getting everyone in the room, introducing the bargaining teams, establishing ground rules, reviewing the process, and setting expectations for how we’ll work together throughout negotiations.
Our team went to work. We proudly presented a letter to management that brought your voices, priorities, and concerns to the bargaining table.
We presented our opening proposal, purposefully excluding economics and highlighting the bargaining unit’s non-economic priorities.
Key highlights:
- Safe Staffing – Proper Break Coverage
- Sustainable and Stable Pay Practices
- NTL and Relief NTL Definitions
- House Charge Nurse Responsibility
- Winter Holiday Scheduling
- Consecutive Weekend Premium and Length of Weekend
- Work on Day Off Premium
- Definitions of Voluntary and Mandatory Low Census
- Bereavement Leave Increase to 60 Hours and to Include Miscarriage or Stillbirth
- 1.5x Pay for Mandatory Meetings and In-Services on Days Off
Management did not provide a counterproposal today and chose to hold their response until our next bargaining session, which is scheduled for Wednesday, September 16, 2026. If you are interested in observing a bargaining session, please reach out to your WSNA Nurse Representative, Ryan Silva at rsilva@wsna.org.
We’ll continue bargaining discussions next week and keep you updated throughout the process.
