Upcoming Union Trainings on June 29 and 30; Nominations Open for Grievance Officer Vacancy

Do you want to get more involved with your WSNA colleagues?  Would you like to be a WSNA Grievance officer or Unit Steward? 

Training Opportunities for WSNA RNs are coming next week!

June 29 6-8 pm Investigations Training

This is your opportunity to get the scoop on how to represent a colleague in an investigation and learn how to become a WSNA Grievance Officer.  We will be covering: 

  • What to expect in an investigatory meeting and how to answer questions.  
  • How to coach a colleague and what your role is as an advocate for your fellow RN.
  • What are your Weingarten Rights?
  • What are your rights when requesting representation and who that person might be?
  • When is a grievance warranted? Including exploring the grievance process from start to finish.

WSNA Representative Ed Zercher along with Tristan Twohig, RN, from Spokane will be taking on this training so be sure to attend and bring your questions!

Come learn what it means to be a Steward and a Union Leader! Steward training covers the basics of contract enforcement and workplace organizing. Topics include:

  • The role of a Union Steward
  • Our rights at work
  • Investigatory Meetings
  • Internal issue organizing for your unit
  • Actions for our next Contract Negotiations

Doug Harper (4SA) resigned from his role as Secretary/Treasurer. We thank Doug for his years of service, both as an officer and as a member of the bargaining team.

Open Position

Madison Schumaker 8NE, previously Grievance Officer, has stepped into the Secretary/Treasurer role. This change creates an opening for a Grievance Officer. We are accepting nominations through July 20.

Officer Appointment Process

  1. Submit Nominations (through July 20)
  • Nominate yourself or a member you trust to represent you.
  • Send nominations to wsna.uwmontlake@gmail.com.

2. Confirm Candidates

  • An officer or WSNA staff member will contact nominees to confirm interest and request completion of a consent-to-serve form.

3. Review and Vote (July 22)

  • Officers will review nominees and vote at their next meeting.
  • Appointment requires a majority vote of LU Officers.

4. Announcement

  • The candidate accepts the role and WSNA announces the new officer.
