UWMC Montlake Bargaining Update 7/21 and 7/24 - Tell Management: This Contract Won’t Fly
Posted Jul 25, 2025
On Monday, July 21, and Thursday July 24, your WSNA bargaining team met with management and pushed back on several key issues, especially around 28/160 flexible scheduling.
Management determined to take-away Flexible Scheduling:
Flexible scheduling is a vital benefit. For many nurses, it’s what makes UWMC-Montlake a viable and desirable place to work. It sets us apart from other employers even when they offer higher pay.
Despite hearing this repeatedly at the table for months, management continues to insist that it will abandon flexible scheduling (our 28/160 salary model) and move to an ATR (actual time recorded) model on February 16, 2026. This means
- you could no longer schedule yourself for more than 40 hours in a week;
- If you’re .9FTE, you must work three 12s each week;
- Any FTEs over .9 could not work strictly 12s (cannot exceed 40 hours in same week); and
- Generally, you could only trade shifts with RNs working the same week (this severely limits your ability to trade without placing yourself or other RN into OT which would then be denied)
In exchange for this enormous take-away, the Employer has proposed a 5% increase over two years (basically the same economic package it’s proposing at Northwest where they are not facing a huge take-away.)
Given management’s insistence on eliminating flexible scheduling, the team recognized the only possible way RNs would consider such a take-away was if the Employer agreed to our economic proposal of 12% over two years along with drastic improvements to our Premiums. Our package proposal brings wages closer to market parity, and introduces percentage-based premiums. The Union’s and Employer’s package economic proposals are listed side-by-side below. Flexible scheduling would cease under either proposed package.
Both scenarios below eliminate the 28/160 Flexible Scheduling Option.
The employer made the last proposal which does in no way take into account the huge takeaway of this scheduling option.
WSNA will be responding to the employer's proposal on Tuesday July 29.

UWMC-Montlake’s Proposal Falls Short of What We Deserve
What management has offered at the table is a far cry from what UWMC Montlake nurses have earned through our commitment, care, and compassion.
We’ve said it before and we’ll keep saying it:
Cuts to the federal budget shouldn’t be passed down to the frontline workers who keep this hospital running. We’ve urged UWMC to look at where its money is going—and who is benefiting. Nurses are not where the cuts should land.
We’re Back at the Table for our LAST scheduled session Tuesday, July 29—And We Need You There
