BARGAINING UPDATE – fighting for better benefits and wages!
Posted May 29, 2025
We, your bargaining team met with management on May 28, 2025 for our 5th session. We started the day by presenting a comprehensive counter-proposal to management including pushing back on management proposal that would provide different wage increases (1.97% – 6.27%) for nurses at different steps in the first year. We also rejected delaying the first wage increase to October and proposed retro pay back to April 1. We countered with proposals around health insurance and retirement benefits such as being able to borrow from a nurse’s 401k balance.
Management came back to us late in the day with a lot of “NO” responses to remaining proposals. First, management did not have a counter to our wage proposal but stated they would have one when we meet again next Thursday. There were other items that management did not respond to.
Management countered that the hospital would pay 100% premium coverage for employees regardless of the selected plan but said NO to improved coverage for dependents. We believe nurses at Whidbey pay more for dependant healthcare coverage than nurses at other area hospitals such as Peace Health facilities, Skagit, Island, Everett, and Jefferson all provide better dependent benefits than Whidbey.
We meet again on June 5. If you would like to observe the June 5 session, please contact your nurse representative, Sara Frey at sfrey@wsna.org.
