Kadlec Contract negotiations update – Session #2
Posted Oct 3, 2025
Second Day Summary
Today was our second day of Negotiations. We used the morning to prepare our research so we will be prepared for discussions with management regarding our priority proposals. We also continued planning for upcoming actions and processes to communicate what is happening in negotiations with our bargaining unit members. (that’s all of you)
In the mid-morning Management presented their partial response to our initial lengthy proposal. Their response was underwhelming to say the least.
Here’s what you need to know about Management’s responses:
They presented their initial counter to a number of our proposals.
- Break Relief RN: Management flat-out rejected our proposal for dedicated break relief nurses and insisted on their failed “buddy break” system that leaves nurses stretched too thin and leaves patients at risk.

- Security Enforcement at entrances: They again, flat-out denied stronger protections to keep staff and patients safe. They acknowledge that some areas already have 24/7 security present but in the main ED that is just a “goal” not a reality but the goal isn’t enough of a priority to work with us to create strong language that ensures that the goal is actually met.
- Step Increases: They rejected our proposal to move step increases to the anniversary date which is a fairer and widely used advancement system across Providence hospitals.
Key takeaways from Day 2
Instead of engaging in real discussion, management delivered minimal counteroffers, rejections without explanation or meaningful dialogue.
Management may continue to stall, but our resolve is stronger. Every nurse at Kadlec deserves a contract that respects our work and protects our patients. The fight does not stop here, it grows with every bargaining session, every conversation, and every show of solidarity. Together, we will keep pushing until our voices are heard and our priorities are secured.
