To-the-Minute Timekeeping Goes Live June 8, 2025

On June 8, management will implement the long-discussed shift from quarter-hour rounding to to-the-minute timekeeping. This is a major change, and we’ve worked hard to ensure your rights and pay are protected.

In September 2024, WSNA negotiated a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) to address our concerns and protect nurses from unfair discipline or pay issues during this transition. You can read the full MOU here.

What’s Changing: Old vs. New

Old Rounding System:

  • Time was rounded to the nearest 15 minutes
  • Clock in at 0653? It rounded up to 0700.
  • Clock out at 1923? It rounded up to 1930.
  • This impacted daily overtime, rest between shifts, and other contractual provisions

New To-the-Minute System (Effective 6/8):

  • You’ll be paid for every minute worked. Clock in at 0653, you get paid starting at 0653
  • Overtime is calculated down to the minute. One extra minute worked = one minute of OT
  • It is critical to clock in and out as close to your scheduled times as possible
  • Patient care comes first—never clock out early if you’re still working!

Key Protections in the MOU

  • Occasional incremental overtime (e.g., waiting to clock out) is expected and should be paid accordingly
  • Occasional undertime will not affect your PTO accrual or FTE status
    • PTO will not be automatically deducted for incremental undertime
  • A 90-day grace period starts June 8: No discipline for clocking variances or tardiness under the new system
  • At the end of the grace period, WSNA officers will meet with management to review the impact and push for extensions if needed

This transition is significant—but thanks to the strength of our union, we secured clear protections and accountability measures. If you have questions or concerns, reach out to your local unit officer or contact Nurse Representative Jared Richardson at JRichardson@WSNA.org.
