We Have a Contract—Now Let’s Keep the Momentum Going

Last week, we made history—again. With a staggering 89% turnout, 977 of 1,100 eligible nurses voted to ratify our tentative agreement, surpassing even our record-breaking 84% participation two months ago. The TA passed by an overwhelming majority 662 to 315. This supermajority is a clear message: we are organized, we are united, and we are powerful. This vote tally also makes it crystal clear that nurses across our bargaining unit want to keep up the fight — at the bargaining table, on the hospital floor, and in our community.

Ratifying the contract is not the end—it’s a beginning. We still have work ahead of us to fix what’s broken: insurance, staffing, and holding management accountable to what we just won at the table. Our strength doesn’t stop with a vote — it lives in our daily solidarity.

What’s Next?

Contract Implementation – June 1

All wage increases, differentials, and new provisions go into effect on June 1, with increased wages and differentials being on the June 20 paycheck.

Join the Insurance Forum

Want to make your voice heard on health insurance? We’re seeking nurses to represent the bargaining unit at quarterly insurance forums. Email Jared at JRichardson@WSNA.org if you're interested.

Officer Elections Are Coming

With the contract in place, it’s time to elect our next local unit leadership team. Nomination forms will be sent next week. Every nurse in good standing is eligible to run. Learn more about available positions and the election process by reading our local unit rules here.

Solidarity with SEIU and UAPD

Our union siblings in SEIU and UAPD are still bargaining for a fair contract, and they return to the table on June 2 and 3. Stay tuned for observer sign-up info and let’s continue to show up for each other.

Grievances Filed: Contract Enforcement in Action

Schedule Change Grievances (During Strike)
We’ve filed two grievances over unilateral schedule changes made by management during the SEIU/UAPD strike. Both are scheduled to be heard this week:

  • HSC Cancellation Grievance
     May 29 at 0800
Management canceled the May HSC, violating the contract. We’re demanding pay for all affected nurses.
    Join the grievance hearing here.
  • Education Cancellations Grievance
     May 30 at 0800
All education classes were canceled without mutual agreement. We’re demanding nurses be made whole.
    Join the grievance hearing here.

Next Hospital Staffing Committee – June 4 at 0800

Let’s keep packing HSC with nurses. Management hears us when we show up.

Thank you to everyone submitting ADOs—your reports are making a difference. This is how we shine a light on unsafe staffing and push for real fixes. Keep them coming.

We Did This—Together

In these past months, we’ve proven what’s possible when nurses stand united.
But this movement doesn’t end with a ratified contract. It grows with every action we take, every meeting we attend, every nurse who steps up.

We’re not done. We’re just getting started.
