The Washington State Nurses Association is pleased to announce the appointment of Katharine Weiss, MPA as WSNA’s Director of Government Affairs.

Weiss has been a member of WSNA’s government relations staff since 2019, most recently as Legislative Director. She began her career as a community organizer in Southern Arizona connecting people to health insurance and health care. After experiencing firsthand the disconnects between health policy and how people experience health care on the ground, Weiss decided to pursue a degree in Public Administration. In 2017, she received her master’s degree in Public Administration from the University of Washington. Prior to joining the WSNA staff, Weiss worked as a policy, research and politics expert for the Washington State Labor Council, Washington State Health Care Authority and Community Health Plan of Washington. Katharine specializes in health system reform and health equity.

In announcing the appointment WSNA executive director David Keepnews said: “I am excited to welcome Katharine into her new role as WSNA’s Director of Government Affairs. She is a strong and experienced advocate for nursing and health care. She has demonstrated her leadership in our pressing policy issues, including the fight for safe staffing. I look forward to continuing to work closely with Katharine in moving nursing forward in Washington!”
