Action required now! Association grievance regarding inappropriate placement on wage scale

Last year, on behalf of your fellow nurses, WSNA filed an Association group grievance on the basis that nurses were hired below the step that was required by the contract based on the nurses’ previous nursing experience. We have reached a settlement with Providence Sacred Heart that could result in an upward step adjustment for nurses who did not receive the appropriate experience credit upon hire. At this point, we do not know how many nurses are affected.

This is where YOU COME IN.

If you feel that you were not correctly placed on the wage scale when you were hired, you MUST request that Providence review your step placement NO LATER THAN FEBRUARY 15, 2020. Such requests must be submitted to Human Resources Business Partner Theresa Colletto, via email, NO LATER THAN FEBRUARY 15, 2020. Requests submitted after this date will not be considered. How do I know if I was correctly placed on the wage scale?In short, if you have ANY doubt as to whether you were correctly placed on the wage scale upon hire, REQUEST A REVIEW. Section 6.2 of the Collective Bargaining Agreement requires that nurses hired with at least two (2) years of recent continuous nursing experience applicable to the specialty for which they are hired will be placed at the actual year of experience on the wage scale. Nurses hired without equivalent recent experience applicable to that specialty will be placed two (2) steps below the actual years of nursing experience. It has come to our attention that some nurses without nursing experience applicable to the specialty for which they were hired may have been incorrectly placed at more than two (2) steps below their actual years of nursing experience. Also, there may be nurses who had at least two (2) years of recent continuous nursing experience applicable to the specialty for which they were hired but were not given one-for-one credit for experience. Again , if you have ANY doubt as to whether you were correctly placed on the wage scale upon hire, REQUEST A REVIEW.
