Widespread retaliation at Children’s - WSNA takes action

Seattle Children’s management/leadership have targeted and retaliated against our nurses for:

  • Advocating for patient safety
  • Advocating for nurse safety
  • Completing ADOs
  • Participating in HSC/UBSC
  • Engaging in protected Union activities

This conduct is NOT acceptable, and violates the law, the Collective Bargaining Agreement (CBA), and institutional policies. The units where targeting and retaliation have occurred are:

  • PACU (Seattle)
  • Ambulatory Clinics
  • Bellevue Surgery Center (BSC)

Nurses and Union leaders in these units have been subject to:

  • Violation of Weingarten rights
  • Discipline without just cause
  • Hyper scrutiny
  • Poor and dismissive treatment
  • Challenging working conditions

What are my Weingarten rights?

WSNA has taken the actions below and is escalating our response to this unacceptable behavior.

  • Filed numerous grievances against the employer
  • Filed Unfair Labor Practice (ULP) charges against the employer
  • Raised the issue to hospital management/leadership
  • Met with hospital management/leadership
  • Requested SCH Cease and Desist retaliating against and targeting nurses

This behavior is a strike against the nurses and the community Seattle Children’s is tasked with serving. Unfortunately, this is not the first time Seattle Children’s Hospital has engaged in this inappropriate and unlawful conduct. Rest assured, WSNA will address this with intention and immediacy.

Please reach out to your Local Unit Officers or WSNA Nurse Rep if you are experiencing targeting, harassment or retaliation in the workplace.
