DEDICATED BREAK RELIEF NURSES are coming to VMMC! - Arbitration settlement.

Background - During bargaining for your current contract, your bargaining team secured language related to the use of break buddies and charge nurses having assignments (covering breaks is taking on an assignment). When the hospital failed to follow this language, WSNA filed a grievance on your behalf. Your WSNA officers have met several times with the hospital over the past year in mediation in hopes of reaching a settlement prior to the arbitration which was scheduled at the end of this month.

We have a settlement that provides dedicated FTEs for break relief nurses!

The settlement provides an additional 16.2 FTEs, or the equivalent of 18 fulltime nurse, for the purpose of providing dedicated break relief.  Your WSNA officers will be meeting with the hospital in the upcoming months with the hospital to work on executing this agreement.

We, your WSNA officers, want to thank all of you who filled out ADOs and who were involved in preparing for arbitration.  Your ADOs and participation were so helpful! Please continue to fill those out those ADOs when staffing is not adequate or in line with the staffing plan.

Do you want to hear more about the settlement?  We will be announcing Sip n Chat meetings shortly and hope to see you there.

Your officers - Hannah Collins-Lewis - Chair, Michael Salters - Vice Chair, Kim Travis - Carter - Secretary, Kim Adekoya - Grievance Officer, Andrew Kelly - Grievance officer and Martha Bermeo (social media)
