Your Union Newsletter: Payroll Errors, Bargaining Team Spotlight and a Survey Reminder

Hey Union Nurses!

Here is the least you need to know:

  • Meet Martha Bermeo, Our Bargainer from Tele
  • Take the Bargaining Survey!  https://wsna.to/VMMCnego2026
  • Check your paystubs, make sure you are getting paid right.

Bargainer Spotlight:

We are quickly approaching the start of bargaining. Your team is already hard at work preparing.  Over the upcoming weeks, we will be shining a spotlight on WSNA nurses leading the work. This week, we asked our Tele Team Member, Martha,  to "tele" us a little about themselves (and demand pet pictures). this is what she had to say:

Full Size Render 2

"I’m Martha Bermeo, I work on tele at night.

I like to create stuff, voice act and Disney. My favorites are Toy Story and Moana. I have two Devon Rex cats and two mutts.

I am really enthusiastic to be on this bargaining team. I was on the last bargaining team and I know a lot about the contract. Successful contracts take years. They happen when people keep coming back. I want our working conditions to continually improve; not just mine, but everyone’s. Our nurses work really hard and I know it can be tough at times.

I want to do everything I can on my side to make things better. If you have any questions, you can always reach me on the Instagram or talk to me at work!"

Please, say hi to Martha if you pass her in the halls and take the bargainingsurvey to help her and our team set priorities for the table.

Payroll Errors

Many nurses are finding payroll errors when they check their timecards.  Please be sure to check your paystub every pay period and notify WSNA promptly if you need assistance because you are not getting a response from HR or payroll or if you disagree with or are uncertain about the response.  Nurses are finding that the hospital is not processing degree or certification paperwork in a timely manner or at all.  We have seen issues with incentive pay, holiday pay, step increases, etc.

FYI - If you are sick during a pay period in which you had an incentive shift and you have protected leave such as Prescheduled Time Off, Mandatory low census, Jury Duty, LOA, FMLA, WA Paid Family Medical Leave, Washington Paid Sick Leave, Family Care Act, Military and Bereavement leave, you are entitled to your incentive pay!  We have seen errors where nurses had a sick day, had protected leave, and the hospital impermissibly denied their incentive pay.
