WSNA Nurse Representative Change

With a heavy heart, I need to announce that duty calls me to change my facility assignments and today is my final day as WSNA Nurse Rep for the SJMC bargaining unit.

SJMC Nurses are near and dear to my heart, after once working here for 24 years in the ICU; then having the honor to come back and represent you as your WSNA Rep.

Hopefully we will cross paths from time to time, as I will still be nearby at St. Clare.

Please give a warm welcome to incoming Nurse Representative Sara Frey. It's actually a welcome back, as she has represented SJMC in the past. She was actually my Nurse Rep when I was a WSNA officer. I learned a lot from Sara and I have a lot of respect for her.  She has worked for WSNA for 17 years and has represented a number of Western Washington facilities. Beginning Monday, May 11, Sara can be reached at SFrey@wsna.org

Keep fighting the Great Fight for Safe Staffing - No Skeleton Crews !

Safe Staffing Grievance

Thank you to the 35+ Nurses who were able to join the Virtual Safe Staffing Grievance Meeting on May 4th. It was an awesome showing of support for Safe Staffing; with heartfelt testimony from many of you. For the remedy, we asked for:

1.    To staff RNs and Support Staff per the Matrices approved by the HSC.

2.    Maintain the HSC approved staffing levels throughout the shift.

3.    Post RN positions which have been vacated and hire more nurses.

4.    Post and hire more support staff to fill the vacancies.

5.    Bring in Travel Nurses to fill FMLA & PFMLA Leaves and Vacations.

6.    Cease assigning charge nurses to patient care assignments.

7.    Cease assigning break nurses and relief break nurses to patient care assignments.

8.    Assign enough break nurses and break relief nurses to provide nurses with their required meal and rest breaks.

9.    Develop a method to recognize and adjust staffing for high acuity patients when staffing assignments are made.

10.   Meet with WSNA to bargain a monetary incentive MOU for nurses willing to pick up extra shifts.

CNO Andrew Baxter should have a response for us NLT May 18, 2026 (14 days).

Mandatory Call Grievance

We met with HR and VP Keith Sprague on April 16th for the PACU Mandatory Call Grievance. Walters and Main PACU nurses were present and testified that PACU nurses are being forced into Mandatory Call which goes against contract language. The response is 2 weeks overdue. Today WSNA refused to agree to allow management to continue extending the grievance response and advanced the grievance to the next Step, which is Step 3.  More information to come about when the Step 3 meeting will occur.  If mandatory call is still occurring, please notify the Nurse Representative.
