It’s time to act: The campaign for a safe staffing law in Washington state is here

As healthcare workers, we have endured risk, trauma, exhaustion, and grief due to the stresses and poor patient outcomes of unsafe staffing. For far too long, we have demanded our hospitals and facilities step up for our patients and for us, only to see staffing numbers far too low for safe patient care.

THIS STOPS NOW. As the three largest healthcare unions in our state, members of SEIU Healthcare 1199NW, UFCW 21, and the Washington State Nurses Association are acting as one to demand change. We are calling on state lawmakers to stand up for us by passing a safe staffing law to ensure that we can care for patients safely, retain qualified staff, recruit new people into our industry, and create sustainable and resilient health care systems for our communities.

Standing together to advocate for enforceable safe staffing standards at every hospital in Washington State is how we will win these changes.
