Contract bargaining update

Your team of WSNA registered nurses met with NW management for a 9th session on Wednesday, June 30 for a full day session. We were able to reach tentative agreement on several more items. We made some much needed progress and are building good momentum towards reaching an agreement. Having responded to all the employer’s proposals and open items, we were able to offer further counters as well as a package counter proposal.

Our proposals and economic package addressed components of the following:

  • A tier structured wage counter that consists of around 9% average wage increases over 2 years
  • Revised Low Census order
  • Vacation Cap and utilization for hours exceeding that cap
  • Rebid/Restructure language to create transparency and consistency in the event it is operationally necessary
  • A rejection of the employer’s mandatory floating between facilities, with a voluntary-only counter
  • An agreement to participate in a Multi Union discussion of multi campus floating after ratification without any commitment to reach agreement

We also exchanged proposals on items such as Seniority, Sick Leave, Hours of Work (with limits on shift rotation), Leaves of Absence, Committee involvement and pay, Continuing Education, the Grievance Procedure and more.

Our team is working to reconvene on Tuesday, July 6 in an effort to continue the momentum we have going. We continue to receive feedback from RNs around the hospital and will fight to ensure we get the best contract possible.

We will also be planning a local unit meeting along with a contract vote within weeks of reaching a tentative agreement.
