Grievance Filed: Nurse Practice and Medications
WSNA filed a grievance due to concerns being expressed about the Safety of Medication Administration and Treatments to the residents when the RN is assigned to the Cart, as well as Supervisory duties. Also some bedside RNs on the cart are asked to be responsible for the call book and call phone. This is an unsafe distraction to proper and safe patient care. Often times nurses are forced into overtime to get all these tasks accomplished.
Thanks to the nurses who attended the grievance meeting on October 29. Management is expected to have a response to the grievance within 14 days.
Quarterly Labor Management Communication Committee Meeting (LMCC) November 7
The quarterly LMCC will be held Friday November 7 from 2:30-3 pm in the Sinclair conference room.
This is a meeting for WSNA leadership to bring issues to Management; and for management to provide us with responses and facility updates. We will discuss staffing issues, overtime, unreasonable work expectations, medication safety, and follow-up on action items from the July 2025 meeting. Please join us.
WSNA Officers Needed
Your assistance is needed to help the WSNA Nurse Representative be aware of the issues you are facing and to be a point of contact for the members. The current officers are looking to appoint a couple of you to help the team. If you'd like to discuss the duties and responsibilities, please contact jstewart@wsna.org
Staffing Complaint Forms - ADOs (Assignment Despite Objection)
Did you know you can use an online ADO form to document any unsafe working condition. That includes: missed breaks, equipment malfunction, inadequate nurse to patient ratios for patient acuity, inadequate support staff, workplace violence... and more! Click on this link to document your situation.
Report your staffing concerns in real time to management to give them an opportunity to correct the situation; then fill out the ADO to keep your union informed of the issues.
Your Representational Rights. What should you do when your manager asks to meet with you?
If your manager approaches you to meet with you, you have the right to ask if the meeting is "Investigatory" and if it may lead to discipline. State, "If this discussion could in any way lead to my discipline or termination, I request a Union Representative be present. Unless I have this representation, I respectfully choose not to participate in this discussion."
Do not be afraid or intimidated to request union representation. It is your Weingarten or Representational Rights per the National Labor Relations Act.
You should then reach out to one of your WSNA officers or call the WSNA Nurse Representative to arrange a meeting date/time.
You may ask your manager what the meeting is about and they are required to give you the General Topic of the meeting.
If any nurse receives disciplinary action, do not hesitate to notify your WSNA nurse representative immediately to discuss the possibility of filing a grievance. Your timeline is 21 days, so don't delay.
