Please ensure everyone is checking their paychecks. I need all the nurses to ensure you are receiving the Sunday premium, preceptor premium, charge premium, and the wage increases we ratified. The easiest way to check is by printing out both pages of your paycheck. If you have any concerns around your pay, please reach out to payroll or me.
We are sending out WSNA Local Unit Officer Election Nomination forms so that you can nominate yourself or another RN who might want to be more involved as a WSNA Chair, Co-Chair, Secretary, Treasurer, Grievance Officer, or Membership Officer. Nominations are to be completed online, and the deadline for submission is January 7, 2026. Complete the form today and have a voice as we ramp up for our next negotiations!
Submit your nominations at https://forms.office.com/r/vTSUrT4N3k.
We are looking for nurses willing to commit to attending the hospital staffing committee. The nurses on this committee are advocates for their co-workers. You will be working collaboratively with management, but pushing to ensure that the needs of the units are being met. If you are interested in joining the HSC, please add your name to the nomination form.
WSNA is hosting our bi-annual Leadership Conference in Wenatchee, Washington. This will be taking place April 26-28 and will have amazing guest speakers and breakout sessions to kick-start your opportunity to be a leader within WSNA and your Local Unit. Our goal this year is to have 25 RNs from UWMC Northwest attend this conference and bolster the engagement and membership at UWMC ML for our upcoming 2027-2029 Contract Bargaining, which will be starting just a year from now.
Stay tuned for your chance to sign up and learn what WSNA is doing in your backyard and around the state. WSNA Leadership at UWMC will be sponsoring scholarships for registration and conference expenses so that you can attend with little or nothing out of pocket. We will be sending out more information in the upcoming weeks, so stay tuned and secure your spot in this Leadership Conference so that you can make a difference!

Help us recognize extraordinary Washington nursing leaders. Nominations close January 2.
These forms are essential to the work the staffing committee performs. These forms encompass more than just short staffing.
Please make sure when filling these out that you include the total number of staff and patients and what the expected staffing should be.
It is crucial that you fill out and submit an ADO (Assignment Despite Objection)/ Staffing Complaint Form for review by the Hospital Staffing Committee.
You can find the link to the fillable form here: https://www.wsna.org/union/ado
These forms create a record of each short staffing event and allow WSNA to track trends, along with the ability to have discussions around the contributors to being short-staffed. We discuss these in our monthly Hospital Staffing Committee.
**Important Reminder** If you are required to take a break by handing off to another nurse, be sure to file an ADO that the employer is requiring you to take a break while leaving insufficient staff on the unit.
The law states that the employer is responsible for maintaining minimum staffing standards for the entirety of all shifts.
The Buddy System is a blatant violation of this directive!
If you are not a WSNA member, please consider completing a membership application today! Just click on the link!

Save the date for the 2026 WSNA Union Leadership Conference.
If you find yourself in a situation that you believe creates unsafe conditions for patients or for you, you should complete a Staffing Complaint / ADO Form as soon as possible.
By completing the form, you will help make the problem known to management, creating an opportunity for the problem to be addressed. Additionally, you will be documenting the facts, which may be helpful to you later if there is a negative outcome.
WSNA also uses your ADO forms to track the problems occurring in your facility. When you and your coworkers take the important step of filling out an ADO form, you are helping to identify whether there is a pattern of unsafe conditions for you or your patients at your facilities. This information is used by your conference committee, staffing committee, and WSNA labor staff to improve your working conditions.
As a union member, you have the right to have a representative present in any meetings with management that could potentially lead to disciplinary action against you.
If called into a meeting with management, read the following to management when the meeting begins:
If this discussion could in any way lead to my being disciplined or terminated, I respectfully request that my union representative be present at this meeting. Without representation present, I choose not to participate in this discussion.
